Tomorrow, When The War Began invades box office

Stuart Beattie‘s Tomorrow, When The War Began has demolished the record books, taking AUD$3.8 million at the local box office in its opening weekend. It marks the third biggest ever opening for an Australian film, and the biggest bow for a solely Australian-funded feature.

Happy Feet and Australia still sit ahead of Tomorrow on the all-time biggest openings chart for Australian productions.

The AUD$27 million film opened on 342 screens and had the highest screen average of any wide release.

Based on its opening weekend alone, Tomorrow is the fourth highest grossing Australian film of 2010 so far, sitting behind Animal Kingdom  (AUD$4.87mil), Wog Boy 2: The Kings of Mykonos (AUD$4.89mil) and Bran Nue Dae (AUD$7.56mil).
