Trailer Debut: Saw 3D

Saw 3D – the final instalment of the gut-churning franchise – has a trailer, and it certainly plays up the gimmicky addition of a third dimension.

I’ve always had a soft-spot for (or should that be ‘a morbid fascination with’) the Saw series. That being said, the first film is the only one I truly like (although Saw 3 has its moments).

In recent years, the Saw series has begun to resemble little more than a shambling corpse of its former self. Each entry forces itself into a corner, leaving the subsequent film to dig its way out (usually unsuccessfully).

That being said, the executions have maintained their wonderful ingenuity, and the trailer for Saw 3D implies at least a couple of interesting new scenarios.

It should also be noted that director Kevin Greutert has gone on the record to essentially say he didn’t want to make this film. Which is, you know, not exactly promising.

Saw 3D, starring Tobin Bell and directed (reluctantly) by Kevin Greutert, opens across Australia October 28, 2010.
