The trailer for Clint Eastwood‘s latest painfully overwrought melodrama film Hereafter has debuted online.
Hereafter stars Matt Damon as a retired medium living in America, Cécile de France as a French journalist, and George McLaren as a British schoolboy dealing with grief – all of whom will presumably be united in some terribly contrived Crash-esque scenario.
Forgive my premature negativity, but Eastwood’s directorial output is as uneven as it gets. Although he’s been responsible for a genuine American classic (Unforgiven) and one of the best recent war films (Letters from Iwo Jima), he’s also delivered melodramatic Oscar-vehicles for actors eager to mug for the camera (Mystic River, Changeling, Gran Torino).
That being said, Hereafter was penned by the supremely-talented Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen). Hmm, conflicted…
Check out the trailer below and let us know which side of the Eastwood fence you think Hereafter might sit.
Hereafter debuts at the Toronto International Film Festival this week and opens October 22, 2010 in the U.S., with an Australian release to follow.
Discuss: Hereafter = (Knowing + Deep Impact)/Crossing Over with John Edward?
