Russell Crowe to star in RZA’s kung fu flick?

UPDATE: Hold your horses RZA! Russell Crowe has confirmed via Twitter that he is not quite attached to this project.

Russell Crowe has reportedly signed on to star in RZA‘s upcoming kung-fu flick The Man With The Iron Fist.

RZA told E! Online that Crowe will play “the baddest man alive”. It is unknown whether his role will be a significant one, or merely a cameo.

The film has been in development for several years, but director and star RZA claims Universal greenlit the picture with a US$20 million budget back in May. The hip-hop star will play a weapons-making blacksmith in feudal China. Eli Roth is attached as co-writer and co-producer.

Although best known as a rapper and member of the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA is also an actor and director in his own right. He has appeared in the Jim Jarmusch films Ghost Dog and Coffee and Cigarettes; he also starred alongside Crowe in American Gangster. The duo most recently worked together on the Paul Haggis flick The Next Three Days.

So, is RZA on the level, or is he merely trying to generate hype? Eh, who knows? It’s just fun to imagine Rusty getting his kung-fu on.

Let’s finish with a quote from RZA on Crowe’s physique:

“That man is in fighting shape. That man will knock you out.”

Discuss: RZA + Crowe + Roth + Kung Fu. Do these elements equal a win for you?
