Trailer Debut: The King’s Speech

The trailer for Academy Award favourite The King’s Speech has debuted online. The Tom Hooper-directed picture stars Colin Firth as stammering King George VI and Geoffrey Rush as his Australian speech therapist.

The film picked up the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. The last two winners of that same prize were Precious and Slumdog Millionaire, which later went on to Oscar glory.

Despite the somewhat stuffy-seeming subject matter, this definitely doesn’t feel like your average period piece. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts below!

The King’s Speech also stars Helena Bonham Carter. It opens in Australia December 26, 2010.

Discuss: Will the Academy favour a film such as this, or go more modern with something like The Social Network?
