Spider-Man: Emma Stone offered Mary Jane; P.S. Hoffman to play Venom?

It’s a new week, and that means we have a whole bunch of updates/rumours regarding Marc Webb‘s upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man saga.

According to Deadline, Sony have offered the role of Mary Jane Watson to Easy A‘s Emma Stone. We discussed this possibility several weeks ago, and it now seems the role is Stone’s to turn down.

Although Mary Jane was the romantic focus of the original trilogy – as played by Kirsten Dunst – she will not be the primary love interest in Webb’s reboot. That honour goes to Spidey’s first girlfriend Gwen Stacy (played by Bryce Dallas Howard in Spider-Man 3). Sony are considering Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Dianna Agron (Glee), Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott for the role.

Deadline also allude to another rumour making the rounds, regarding Philip Seymour Hoffman being offered the role of the villainous Venom. This claim is not as legit as the casting of the leading ladies, but still, fun to ponder!

Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield as the legendary Marvel hero, begins shooting later this year for a May 2012 debut.

Discuss: A lot to digest here. Thoughts?
