Zack Snyder to direct Superman

In one of the most hotly-contested races in recent Hollywood history, Zack Snyder has proven victorious. The Watchmen-helmer has been selected to direct the upcoming Superman reboot for Warner Bros.

According to Deadline, Snyder will begin working on the new Man of Steel adventure as soon as he completes post-production on Sucker Punch.

Snyder’s name was on a shortlist of potential directors handpicked by producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas that also included Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman and Duncan Jones. Other filmmakers in contention included Darren Aronofsky, Ben Affleck and Robert Zemeckis.

The as-yet-untitled Superman flick has been penned by David S. Goyer, who holds a story credit on Nolan’s Batman films.

The Snyder/Goyer/Nolan version of the Superman story is rumoured to feature General Zod as the primary villain. It will arrive in cinemas 2012.

Discuss: Is Snyder the right man for the job?

  1. >Please stop using the word "reboot" in every single post. It's not a stand in for "sequel," "new leading actor," etc, etc — just, stop. Were the heap of bad Batman movies a few years back each reboots? No. Star Trek was a full on reboot.Superman? No. They just made one of those in 2006. Just because they replaced some members of the team and sent you a press-release does not a "reboot" make. Like it or not — its the same studio, and they're making a sequel to a crappy movie. What's the rebooted element? "We promise it won't suck donkey this time!"

  2. >Snyder's Superman is NOT a sequel (whereas Superman Returns was). It IS reboot, at least in cinematic parlance; new cast, new director, new writer, new story – a new take independent of previous Superman films. Same as Batman Begins and Star Trek – all reboots. We use the word often, because it often applies. Dont hate the player, hate the game.
