Mulligan and Rapace competing for role in Alien prequel?

A couple of incredibly talented ladies are being touted as potential leads for Ridley Scott‘s upcoming Alien prequels. According to Deadline, Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) are both on 20th Century Fox’s radar for the highly sought-after role.

Scott and Fox have reportedly met with a number of actresses (including Gemma Arterton) to star as the picture’s female lead. Although little is known about the role at this point, we presume it will be cut from the same cloth as Sigourney Weaver‘s iconic Ripley.

The Swedish Rapace recently took a number of meetings in the U.S., hot off the buzz from her performance in Dragon Tattoo. It was a visit that resulted in her being cast as the female lead in Sherlock Holmes 2 (and maybe Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters).

Mulligan recently starred in Fox’s Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.
