Yesterday it was revealed that Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) would star as the villain in Marc Webb‘s upcoming Spider-Man reboot. It was unknown which character from the Marvel universe he would play. Until now!
According to The Wrap, Ifans will play Dr. Curt Connors. Yes, The Lizard!
In the Spider-Man mythology, Connors is a one-armed surgeon and research technologist who transforms into a reptilian monster after using an experimental formula to grow back his missing limb.
The Lizard is one of the most popular supervillains in the Spider-Man universe (perhaps just after Venom and The Green Goblin).
Dylan Baker starred as Dr. Curt Connors in Sam Raimi‘s original trilogy (although in those films he had both arms and was not a man-lizard).
As previously reported, Andrew Garfield will star as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone has been cast as his first love Gwen Stacy.
Spider-Man 3-D begins shooting later this year for a May 2012 debut.
Discuss: Would you have preferred to see Dylan Baker take on The Lizard, or are you just glad that we’ll finally see this legendary villain brought to life?
