Darren Aronofsky to adapt Aussie novel

Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream, Wolverine 2 – maybe) has signed on to direct Machine Man, a serialised online novel from Aussie writer Max Barry.

Machine Man tells the story of a geek who systematically replaces his body parts with high-tech machinery.

Barry released one page of his tale online every day, beginning in 2009. The entire novel will be released in September 2011 (although you can read it online here).

According to Variety, screenwriter Mark Heyman – who also penned Aronofsky’s Black Swan – will adapt the novel for the big screen.

It is unknown if Machine Man will begin production before or after Wolverine 2, which Darren Aronofsky is (unofficially) attached to direct.

Discuss: Would you rather Aronofsky work on smaller, offbeat fare such as this, or move completely into the realm of big-budget blockbusters?
