We know, we know, it’ll probably never happen. Allow us a brief moment to once again debate the likelihood of Ghostbusters 3 hitting cinemas. According to Production Weekly’s very reliable Twitter account, Sony Pictures might put Ghostbusters 3 into production May 2011.
And that’s all we have to report. Here is what we already knew:
Ivan Reitman is lined up to direct the script provided by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (and rewritten by Dan Aykroyd). The original cast – including Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver – are also expected to return for the third instalment of the Ghostbusting saga. Well, maybe the entire cast.
The last time we heard from Murray on the project, he declared it “a crock” and showed little confidence in screenwriters Stupnitsky and Eisenberg. Here’s what he said about their last film:
“Well, I never went to see Year One, but people who did, including other Ghostbusters, said it was one of the worst things they had ever seen in their lives.”
The irony here of course is that Year One was directed by a Ghostbuster.
So, is Production Weekly on the money? Are they merely overhearing the collective buzz of millions of over-eager fans, or are producers legitimately scouting locations for GB3?
More news as it develops.
