Emmerich’s low budget disaster film … destroyed!

Roland Emmerich‘s low-budget alien invasion movie The Zone has been shut down a mere week before cameras were to begin rolling.

According to THR, rehearsals had already begun on the Cloverfield-esque found-footage movie.

The director’s people released this brief statement on the project’s status:

“This is not a project (Emmerich) is pursuing at this time.”

Although no official reason for the premature shut-down on production has been given, the prevailing rumour is that studio Columbia Pictures was wary of unleashing yet another found-footage film on audiences.

Head on over to THR to read about some of the features to blame for The Zone’s cancellation.

Discuss: So, Roland Emmerich can secure a bajillion dollars for a film like 2012, but a studio balks at his small $5 million feature? This is one crazy world…
