Everyone’s favourite Austrian auteur (sorry Erich von Stroheim!) Michael Haneke is getting ready to shoot his follow-up to Palme d’Or winner The White Ribbon.
In an interview with The Playlist, frequent Haneke-collaborator Isabelle Huppert revealed that the director’s next film will be Ces Deux (These Two).
Haneke had previously announced this project back in 2009, and revealed that it would center on the “humiliation of the physical breakdown in the elderly”, which sounds just about right for a Michael Haneke film.
He then reportedly abandoned the project in favour of a new film about the internet, which we can only assume would have been a glowing, not-at-all-soul-crushing examination of the tool that gave us The Quickflix Blog, Awkward Family Photos and Om Nom Nom Nom.
However, if Huppert is to be believed (and she has no reason the lie), the internet project is now on the back-burner and Haneke is in pre-production on These Two.
Although details are scarce, Huppert also revealed that she will play the daughter of Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis TrintIgnant. These Two will begin shooting early next year in Paris.
Discuss: Will These Two be the heartwarming family film of the year?
