Despite several new films opening last week the box office results for the period November 11-14 are in and it seems we still love watching movies where people get hurt and invent websites; Jackass 3D and The Social Network top the list.

George Clooney’s new film The American posted a good first weekend considering its limited screens, while Hollywood sci-fi Skyline also opened strong. New Mexploitation film Machete failed to make the top 10 with only $149,881 on 50 screens, and the little indie that could, Winter’s Bone, is sitting at number 15 with only $80,417 on 12 screens. We urge you to find one of those 12 screens and see Winter’s Bone, one of the best films of the year. It’s also another disappointing week for Aussie horror The Loved Ones, sitting at number 18 with $60,343 on 89 screens.
With the new Harry Potter film opening this coming Thursday, you can be assured that everyone’s favourite boy wizard will open at number one and – fingers crossed – push Eat Pray Love out of the top 10. We’re not mad Australia, but spending $11,616,343 to see Julia Roberts eat some pasta seems a little absurd.
