>Jeremy Renner to take over Mission: Impossible franchise

>Jeremy Renner has confirmed what we’ve long expected: he’s being groomed to take over the reins of the Mission: Impossible series.

In a conversation with MTV, Renner revealed that his supporting role in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol could eventually lead to him replacing Tom Cruise as the franchise’s figurehead.

“It’s a franchise to potentially take over…I can’t predict the future and what they want, but that’s certainly the idea.”

Cruise – both the star and producer of the M:I series – had to fight tooth and nail to bring a fourth instalment to the screen. Paramount Pictures were reportedly only interested in bringing his Ethan Hunt back out of retirement if they could pair him with a younger actor to help him carry the film.

Renner, who scored an Oscar nomination for The Hurt Locker and is set to star as Hawkeye in The Avengers, is quickly becoming a viable action hero with both the chops and the star power to carry a name-brand such as Mission: Impossible.

  1. >Good choice. Cruise has had his day. Can't carry a movie anymore. Put him out to pasture or just give him small supporting roles/cameos.

  2. >I think it's time to take Mission Impossible another level. Yep, Tom has had his days.
