>Giamatti in talks for Cronenberg’s latest

>Paul Giamatti is in talks to join David Cronenberg’s new film Cosmopolis, according to The Playlist. If successful, Giamatti will join Colin Farrell and Marion Cotillard who both signed on earlier in the year.

Cosmopolis is based on the novel of the same name by Don DeLillo. The story follows a young, newlywed billionaire (Farrell) who, over the course of 24 hours, manages to not only lose his entire fortune but cheat on his wife (Cotillard), be stalked, get attacked and numerous other incidents which contribute to the undeniable worst day ever.

There’s no word on which character Giamatti will be cast as but based on the source material his options are limited to a pastry chef who attacks the billionaire (this sounds right up Giamatti’s alley) or another “threatening character” the protagonist meets.

Cronenberg will write the screenplay and direct, a dual title he hasn’t had since eXistenZ back in 1999. No word on when production will start as Cronenberg is finishing post production on A Dangerous Method, starring Viggo Mortensen as Sigmund Freud. Farrell looks to hold the production up also with his role in the Total Recall reboot set to begin filming in mid-2011.

Discuss: Does this sound like a good project for Giamatti?

  1. >I am not a fan of Giamatti. He has made some shockers, the worst of which is probably Shoot 'Em Up. Just horrifically terrible.

  2. >Yep, I agree. I did watch Giamatti's works before but none of them really was that great.
