>Iron Man 3 will be the sequel to WHAT now?

>It seems that not even Jon Favreau knows what to expect of Iron Man 3 – and bear in mind here that he’s the director.

In an interview over at MTV, the director who appears to be in the dark speaks out – we think candidly – about some expectations concerning the 2013 release of Iron Man 3.

Apparently it’s not the case that Iron Man 3 will be just another in the Tony Stark franchise, but more of a continuation of the Marvel movie universe.

Having already spoken somewhat with both Kenneth Branagh, who is directing Thor, and Joss Whedon, who’s working on The Avengers, Favreau ventured;

“In theory, ‘Iron Man 3’ is going to be a sequel or continuation of ‘Thor,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Captain America’ and ‘Avengers’ …This whole world… I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”

It’s hard to tell if Favreau is just acting coy and erring on the side of caution by not giving anything away at this point in time.

But alas, Favreau’s silence could well be the result of the non-standard filmmaking practices that Marvel purportedly keeps. From a studio that continue to film even after they’ve “officially” finished filming (mid and post-edit no less) it may indeed be on someone’s good advice that Favreau is keeping quiet. What he did say, however, is;

“Honestly, right now ‘Captain America’ and ‘Thor’ are their big priorities, and you learn things by shooting and making movies … The script is one thing, but when you actually see what you land on at the editing room — especially with Marvel where they film, cut, film some more and shape the film — you really learn as you go.”

Iron Man 3 has a planned US release date for May 13 2013. No Australian release date as yet. More news – and no doubt the odd Marvel-style revision – as it comes in.

Discuss: Do you think Favreau is holding something back or does he genuinely have no idea what will become of Tony Stark?

  1. >Oh, please. Iron Man 2 was painful to watch. Okay, let's just hope Iron Man 3 would be better or the best yet!
