>Head to Head – Jingle All The Way

Christmas is a time for unity … kinda. Just because it’s the holiday season doesn’t mean we can’t still go Head to Head! This week, Quickflix’s Jess Lomas gets all Grinchy over the Arnold Schwarzenegger Xmas vehicle Jingle All The Way, even in the face of Guy Martin’s cheerful praise. Read on, and share your thoughts. Oh, and Merry Christmas!

Guy Martin – 3/5

Jingle all the Way may be the worst Christmas movie ever made … but it also might be the best. It’s cheap, but it’s good. I feel like I can relate to it because I wanted a Voltron toy growing up and this film is all about that ultimate toy you want for Christmas. It’s the messages in this film that I like; in the end Jamie gives the Turbo Man doll away when he realises he has his own “Turbo Man” – his dad. Although, I still don’t understand why he doesn’t recognise his dad, dressed up as Turbo Man, at the parade, just because he’s wearing that mask. Jingle all the Way is non-stop Christmas fun. “It’s Turbo Time!”

Jess Lomas – 1.5/5

I have to admit, the first 20 or so minutes of this film are enjoyable. I don’t mind a bit of comedy-Arnie and there are some great one liners – “You’re my number one customer!” – but about half an hour in this film becomes painful. Arnie gets annoying, Sinbad makes an appearance and a reindeer gets drunk on beer. Yep, holiday classic! The only good thing about this film is Phil Hartman, whose character Ted is consistently funny and entertaining. When Arnie goes to the dodgy warehouse full of Santas things really take a turn for the worst – a scene which is so bad it deserves an audible groan. By the end of the movie I don’t give two hoots whether Jamie gets his damn Turbo Man doll or not … sorry, action figure. Call me Scrooge but this isn’t my idea of a holiday treat.
