Robert Pattinson to star in Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis

Hold onto your underwear ladies! Deadline has confirmed Robert Pattinson will replace Colin Farrell in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis.

Cosmopolis, based on the novel of the same name by Don DeLillo, is the story of a young, newlywed billionaire who, over the course of 24 hours, manages to not only lose his entire fortune but cheat on his wife, be stalked, get attacked and numerous other incidents which contribute to the undeniable worst day ever. Pattinson will take the lead role from Farrell, playing Eric Packer (no relation to Kerry).

Back in December we discussed the possibility of Paul Giamatti joining the cast, but with Pattinson now replacing Farrell it’s safe to assume nothing is set in concrete until the contracts are signed.

There’s no word on whether the other rumoured cast-member Marion Cotillard is confirmed but we must say her pairing with Pattinson would certainly be one of the more unusual in recent silver screen history.

Pattinson will next be seen in Francis Lawrence’s Water for Elephants along with the two final films in the Twilight franchise. It seems Pattinson is choosing his post-Twilight projects carefully showing us he can do more than smolder and glitter on screen.

Discuss: Pattinson meets Cronenberg. What can we expect?
