Primer director working on Rian Johnson’s Looper

We’ve not got too much information to work with here, but a picture from the set of Rian Johnson’s upcoming time-travel thriller Looper reveals the mysterious involvement of Shane Carruth (Primer).

The picture was posted on Looper’s official Tumblr, with the enigmatic – but in a way, rather straightforward – caption: “Shane Carruth is working on Looper.”

Engineer-turned-director Carruth made what many (including myself) consider to be the best film about time travel ever with 2004’s Primer. Produced on a minuscule budget of $7000, the film picked up the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He was thought to be working on the insane-sounding A Topiary, but now, not so much.

Badass Digest learnt that Carruth is working on some effects for Looper’s time travel sequence.

Looper is to be Johnson’s follow up to the films Brick and The Brothers Bloom. Set in the near future, it stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt and Paul Dano.

Calibrate your excitement accordingly.

Discuss: Carruth + Johnson? Yes please!
