>New images from The Hangover Part II

>What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas but what happens in Thailand … looks exactly like what happened in Vegas. Two new images have been released for Todd Phillips’ sequel to the smash hit The Hangover, creatively titled The Hangover Part II, and we’re declaring it an awful case of déjà vu.

The Hangover Part II will see the four friends – Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug – travel to Thailand for Stu’s wedding (Stu’s the guy who wakes up in the first film to discover he’s missing a tooth). After the shenanigans that took place on the buck’s night for Doug in The Hangover it seems the boys don’t want to risk a repeat of events, so Stu opts for “a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch”. Of course things don’t go to plan and as the official plot synopsis states, “what happens in Bangkok can’t even be imagined”. Oh, we can imagine!

The first image – taken from Phillips’ Facebook page – shows Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) in a small room with a monkey wearing a Rolling Stones vest instilling fear in them from above. It looks hilarious – see, the monkey is wearing a vest! Monkeys don’t wear vests! Essentially this looks to be part of the scene where the men wake up and go “whoa, what happened last night dude?”, but instead of a tiger in the first film we now have a monkey. Galifianakis also has a shaved head and is wearing a dog t-shirt. That ca-razy Alan! Okay so perhaps we’re being a little pessimistic here let’s move on to image number two.

This image – courtesy of The Daily Blam – sees the guys in a … hallway? This image really tells us nothing. I don’t know how to deconstruct this … uh, they look tired … and sweaty.

The big question these two images raise is where is Doug (Justin Bartha)? Seeing as this isn’t his wedding presumably he’ll be involved in the pre-wedding chaos yet we haven’t seen him beyond the photo of the foursome at the airport. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for sightings and keep you updated.

The Hangover was a well received comedy that ranged from ‘funny’ to ‘hilarious’ to ‘the-best-movie-ever!’ according to who you spoke to. From this small glimpse at the sequel it looks to be a case of director Todd Phillips trying to recreate a magic formula. We just hope there’s enough originality in the film to keep it funny and interesting.

The Hangover Part II arrives in Australian cinemas May 26th, 2011.
