>Black Swan screenwriter (and newly minted Academy Award nominee) Mark Heyman is set to pen the screenplay for sci-fi film Age of Rage according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Heyman shares writing credits with John McLaughlin and Andres Heinz for Darren Aronofsky’s recent hit dance thriller Black Swan, which picked up a total of five nominations at this year’s Academy Awards.
Along with the Oscar nomination it seems Heyman has the golden touch, now signing this deal with Fox Searchlight for Age of Rage, to be directed by Marc Webb of (500) Days of Summer and the upcoming Spider-Man reboot fame.
Age of Rage is set to be another chapter in the soon to be swamped dystopian book and film market focused on teens trying to survive after the adults have perished. Think Lord of the Flies meets Tomorrow When the War Began but hopefully with better acting.
Heyman’s background is in what is called “elevated genre” films, working closely with Aronofsky as his assistant and moving on to become a senior VP at Protozoa Pictures.
Along with Age of Rage, Heyman worked on the script for Machine Man, Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming project for 2012. Machine Man has been dubbed a sci-fi thriller in which a geek systematically replaces his body parts with high-tech machinery.
Heyman has also co-written the screenplay for The Skeleton Twins set to be released this year and starring Anna Faris and Bill Hader. This dark comedy follows estranged twins Milo and Maggie after they “reunite to confront how their lives went so wrong”.
With his career in the early stages we can only foresee great things for Heyman if his track record is anything to go by.
Discuss: Are you looking forward to seeing Aronfosky’s protege and Webb combine powers?
