>The King’s Speech awarded by DGA

>Holster those scissors, Harvey! You may not need to censor The King’s Speech to ensure its Oscar victory. The Directors Guild of America have awarded TKS director Tom Hooper their top prize.

In the past decade, eight of the ten winners of the DGA award have gone on to claim Best Director at the Oscars. In fact, only six times since the award was first handed out in 1948 has the DGA award not correlated with the Academy’s selection. This means Tom Hooper has leapfrogged The Social Network helmer David Fincher to be favourite for the prize come the Oscar ceremony.

Thanks to its DGA win and last month’s Producers Guild of America victory, The King’s Speech is now favourite to take home Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
