>Cameron Diaz is set to star opposite Colin Firth in Michael Hoffman’s remake of the 1966 action/comedy Gambit.
Scripted by Joel and Ethan Coen, the film follows an art curator (Firth) who attempts to con a collector into purchasing a fake painting. According to Deadline, Diaz will star as a “Texas steer roper” who helps the curator with his con.
The original starred Michael Caine as a cat burglar who attempts to steal a billionaire’s priceless statue with the help of a waitress (Shirley MacLaine) who happens to be a dead ringer for the victim’s late wife.
Discuss: Does Diaz seem a good fit for this role?
>Damn it, why do they keep doing remakes? Whatever happened to an original Coen brothers screenplay?
