>Trailer Debut: Win Win

>The trailer for Sundance hit Win Win, starring Oscar-nominees Paul Giamatti and Amy Ryan, has debuted online.

Win Win tells the tale of an attorney/volunteer high school wrestling coach (Giamatti) who takes a troubled teen (Alex Shaffer) under his wing and preps him for some athletic victories.

Looking past that incredibly clichéd synopsis, this film looks like a gem. Reviews out of the Sundance Film Festival were incredibly positive, and the trailer is both warmly funny and affecting.

The film is written and directed by Thomas McCarthy, who previously helmed the much lauded The Station Agent and The Visitor. In 2010 he received an Oscar nomination for co-writing the screenplay to Pixar’s Up. He’s also appeared as an actor in a number of projects, including the final season of The Wire as an ethically-corrupt journalist, and as Dr. Bob in Meet the Parents.

Check out the trailer and share your thoughts below!

Win Win also stars Bobby Cannavale, Melanie Lynskey, Jeffrey Tambor and Burt Young.

Discuss: Does McCarthy have the chops to pull off an inspirational sports film, or will he succumb to saccharine sweetness like so many before him?

  1. >It's really one of the movies I should watch this year. The reviews of Win Win had been awesome, although, yes, the plotline is kinda cliche. But it's a lot better than some of the bad movies circulating the theater this year.
