>It seems no one can get enough of our home-grown Naomi Watts. Already working on back-to-back projects the latest news is that the infamous Werner Herzog wants her for his next film, Vulture reports.
Werner Herzog, cinema’s mad scientist of sorts, at age sixty-eight, has just written a new drama called Queen of the Desert and is said to be in serious discussions with Naomi Watts to play the title role.
Set at the dawn of the twentieth century, the Queen’s character is based on a real life British writer/explorer, archaeologist, cartographer, and political attaché for the British Empire. From common stock, Gertrude Bell was a woman who made kings of men, playing a pivotal role in the founding of the modern states of Jordan and Iraq and helping instate their first rulers King Faisal and King Abdullah.
Of course, as we already mentioned, Watts is incredibly busy at the moment and needs first to finish up filming The Impossible (a film about the 2004 Thailand Tsunami in which she plays opposite Ewan McGregor), as well as starting and finishing on Clint Eastwood’s biopic of J. Edgar Hoover (let’s hope for Watts’ sake that his next film is better than his latest – Hereafter).
The film hasn’t got a studio yet but we’re sure that if Naomi signs on (which she is apparently quite keen to do) cinema’s mad scientist will be back in the lab creating yet another explosive cinematic treat for us all.
Discuss: What is it about Ms Watts that leaves everyone wanting more?
