>Superbowl Trailer Debut: Captain America – The First Avenger

On Sunday evening in the United States, families gathered around their televisions to learn which products they should consume and which movies they should buy tickets to in the coming weeks and months. It was intermittently interrupted by a football game and a performance by the Black Eyed Peas. They call it the Superbowl.

One of the films that showed off its wares during the Superbowl was Captain America. Embedded below is the 30-second teaser, which offers up our first glimpse at the upcoming Marvel superhero flick.

Captain America: The First Avenger arrives in cinemas July 2011. Directed by Joe Johnston, it stars Chris Evans as the Cap, Hugo Weaving as the villainous Red Skull and Hayley Atwell as the Captain’s love interest.

Discuss: Is this a satisfying teaser? Did CGI-skinny Chris Evans look convincing? Thoughts on Hugo Weaving’s (really) red skull? Are they making a mistake by advertising the Captain primarily as “The First Avenger”?
