Sam Raimi may have trouble locking down a male lead for Oz: The Great and Powerful, but it seems he’s found his leading lady. According to Vulture, Mila Kunis (Black Swan, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is likely to join the Wizard of Oz prequel as Theodorah, sister of eventual Wicked Witch of the West Evanorah.
Kunis was loosely attached to The Hughes Brothers‘ two-film adaptation of Akira (which we’ll believe is actually happening when it arrives in cinemas), but is said to have bolted after meeting with Raimi and potential Wizard James Franco about their 3-D project.
The original script for Oz: The Great and Powerful (formerly titled Brick) was written by Mitchell Kapner, and is now being reworked by David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole). The film focuses on The Wizard of Oz before he came to be “The Wizard of Oz”, starting as a circus wrangler who is mysteriously transported to the land of Oz and mistaken for a know-it-all.
Discuss: Do you think Kunis and Franco are the right fit for this fantastical Disney project?
