Ridley Scott’s Prometheus scores giant new cast member

The latest addition to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus cast is an eight-foot tall animatronic ‘space jockey’ skeleton based on the one that appeared in the opening scenes of Alien.

Sky Movies has confirmation from “an insider” that the space jockey – who should really have a name; Ralph sounds good – is being created with the guidance of designer H.R. Giger who worked on Alien. Ralph will be joined by another designer alien; a giant head piloting a ship, which is likely to be developed using CGI.

“I’ve also had it confirmed that H.R. Giger is working on the project but only in an advisory capacity. By the way, people are going to be in for a shock when they sit down to watch Prometheus and there’s an enormous semi-human head piloting a spaceship,” says the ‘insider’.

Perhaps telling us we’re going to see an enormous semi-human head piloting a spaceship will remove this shock you speak of ‘insider’. Just saying.

Prometheus is the new Scott project that developed from the proposed Alien prequel with Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace already signed on to star. Scott has tried to distance Prometheus from the Alien series while conceding it will have strands of Alien DNA; Ralph the space jockey skeleton no doubt being the first of many borrowed elements we will hear of during production.

Discuss: Are you glad to see some elements of the Alien series in Prometheus, or would you prefer it to be a completely separate project?
