The red-band trailer for upcoming comedy Bad Teacher has debuted online. Cameron Diaz stars as a foul-mouthed teach who tries to win over a handsome new substitute (Justin Timberlake).
Well, they weren’t lying when they slapped a red-band on this trailer (sorry under-18s – you’ll have to wait until the folks are in bed to watch this one). The expletives fly freely, and more pressingly, Diaz’s character truly seems like she was spawned from the bowels of hell.
But can a truly repulsive protagonist carry a comedy? Sure, why the hell not! As long as it avoids the Dinner For Schmucks-style last act lecture and embraces its depravity, Bad Teacher could be a work of genius a’la Observe and Report.
Check out the trailer and share your thoughts below! (Seriously though: language warning.)
The film comes courtesy of director Jake Kasdan (who made the painfully underrated work of comedic gold Walk Hard) and screenwriters Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (The Office, Year One). Bad Teacher also stars Jason Segel and Lucy Punch. It arrives in Australian cinemas June 23, 2011.
