Trailer Debut: Snowtown

The trailer for Justin Kurzel’s Snowtown, based on the notorious Snowtown murders, has debuted online. Sure, it may make the film look like Animal Kingdom 2.0., but that’s hardly stunting our anticipation for the flick.

We named Snowtown the 7th most exciting release of 2011, and this trailer certainly builds upon our already high expectations. It tells the story of John Bunting (Daniel Henshall), the leader of “the Snowtown killers”, responsible for the murder of 12 people throughout the 1990s. Lucas Pittaway stars as James Vlassakis, a young man drawn into Bunting’s web.

From the looks of the trailer, Kurzel could be another David Michôd in the making – lingering, dreamy shots; heavy use of slow-motion; the grisly subject matter (most obviously). Whether that’s a good or bad thing, we’ll find out when we see the entire film.

Check it out for yourselves and share your thoughts below!

Snowtown arrives in Australian cinemas May 19.

Discuss: Does the film look too similar to Animal Kingdom for your tastes?

  1. Snowtown looks like Animal Kingdom in so far as they are both new Aussie crime flicks! To me Animal Kingdonm played out as though it were a continuation of the Underbelly series. The film will succeed or fail on its own merits regardless of similarities
