It’s the film many have been waiting for, and many have wanted to make, but it will be director Jake Scott who will helm the untitled Jeff Buckley biopic, according to Deadline.
The Welcome to the Rileys director will develop a script by Ryan Jaffe, with Michelle Sy and Orian Williams producing, and Mary Guibert, Buckley’s mother, executive producing.
Jeff Buckley was an inspirational musician to many despite shying away from the spotlight and only producing one hit album, Grace. The son of troubled musician Tim Buckley, who died at age 28 in 1975, Jeff would only live to the age of 30, drowning during a spontaneous evening swim in the Wolf River.
As anticipated, the rights to Buckley’s music have been obtained, as well as the options for the David Browne book Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley, signifying a complete biopic is on the cards.
The film is set to begin production in August with no word yet on casting. There is sure to be an abundance of young hopefuls auditioning to play this famed musician, and one would hope only musically able need apply.
James Franco would be good for the part
I think John Maher would be perfect
