Woody Allen has never had any trouble recruiting actors for his films, and that streak won’t be broken by his upcoming feature. According to Deadline, Alec Baldwin has signed on to star in Allen’s currently-untitled, Rome-set new movie.
Although there aren’t many details available, the Allen-esque Jesse Eisenberg is said to be in contention for the lead role.
Penelope Cruz (who won an Oscar for her supporting turn in Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona) is also confirmed to be part of the cast.
Of course, we Australians are still waiting for Allen’s last two films: You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger and Midnight in Paris. Slow down Woody!
Discuss: Glad to see another European joint from Allen, or would you prefer he return to New York?
Rome- that will be another great location for the panoramas of an Allen film. Europe or New York- I look forward to both. I believe one has to be careful though, when casting Americans in European films- the context has to be just right for it to work. It just did in Vicki Christina Barcelona. I’m very curious about the Rome plot.
I do have a particular itch for the typical Allen New York romp, with a crazy twist- or another series of New York vignettes.
Has the man been to Dallas? I wonder what he could do with that….?
