Alright, you got us Rotten Tomatoes. Suggesting any film as “this year’s Dogtooth” is a sure fire way of sparking our interest in a movie, which is precisely what they said of Greek drama Attenberg.
Heading to Sydney for the 2011 Film Festival, the trailer for Athina Rachel Tsangari’s Attenberg suggests a similarly complex and peculiar depiction of love, sexuality and biology as in Dogtooth. It even co-stars Dogtooth director Giorgios Lanthimos.
A number of reviews for the film so far have been glowing (even though they’ve had trouble describing what the film is specifically about). Star Ariane Labed picked up the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at last year’s Venice International Film Festival.
Check out the visually arresting, mystifying, and NSFW trailer below!
As mentioned, Attenberg will play the Sydney Film Festival in June.
I hate reading all these reviews and not being able to put eg Attenberg and Martha Marcy on my list – even in a contingent way. Any chances?
There are no DVD release dates yet (Martha Marcy May Marlene hits Aus cinemas in Jan), but in the meantime:
