Jeremy Renner has landed the lead role in The Bourne Legacy, Deadline reports.
The long wait is over as Universal Pictures officially offered Renner the opportunity to star in the Tony Gilroy directed action thriller. The film is a spinoff of the highly successful Bourne Identity trilogy which starred Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. In The Bourne Legacy, Renner will play a government program operative more dangerous than Bourne.
Several names were thrown around during the casting process including Aussie Joel Edgerton, as well as Dominic Cooper, Garrett Hedlund and Luke Evans, but ultimately Renner – who stood out with his Oscar nominated performances in The Hurt Locker and The Town – impressed most.
Renner will next be seen in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, proving he’s got the action star thing down pat. Also on the horizon from Renner is Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and The Avengers.
Yes. Matt Damon was excellent in the Bourne trilogy, but the choice of Jeremy Renner will hopefully make the Bourne spin-off a little more grittier…hope Jeremy does exactly what Daniel Craig did for the last two Bond movies!
I am now that renner is attached. Damon plays a great everyman but there wasn’t too much character to Bourne. Hopefully Renner improves on this.
I really hope this is good. Damon was stellar as Bourne. Thank goodness Shia LeBouef is nowhere near this project, as was rumoured.
@Caz
I have to agree with you there!
I really like Jeremy Renner he is a great actor and not at all bad to look at!
