After what seems like a lifetime of rumours, casting announcements and fanboy wish fulfilment, production has officially begun on Joss Whedon’s Marvel comic adaptation of The Avengers.
The film will unite Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and SHIELD Agents Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) in an epic battle against … well, we don’t know yet. Lips are understandably sealed. You can check out a cute first image from the set above instead.
Whedon took to the blog Whedonesque to share his thoughts on his new endeavour.
An excerpt!
Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I’m legally permitted to say that). Day one. That’s right. We’ll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene, at the following address:
[Marvel Lawyers rush in, take Joss’s keyboard, blowtorch a picture of his family like in “Stormy Monday”, drink his milkshake, leave the seat up, fluff his pillows, violently unfluff his pillows, leave]
Check out his entire spiel here.
So there you go. By the time the flick returns to the news cycle, it will be due to official images from the set or the first official trailer.
If you’re patient, you can wait until the film comes out in 2012.
The Hulk is gonna need a bigger chair!
