The sensual new poster for Julia Leigh’s Cannes-bound Aussie drama Sleeping Beauty has debuted online. Transmission brought it to our attention via Twitter. (Haven’t you heard? Everyone’s doing it that way now.)
Sleeping Beauty stars Emily Browning as a young prostitute who submits herself to the ‘Sleeping Beauty Chamber’, in which her clients can do to her as they please while she sleeps. The trailer is far more beautiful than you would expect for a film with that kinda-creepy description. Glad to see they’ve created a poster that captures the trailer’s mixture of eroticism and weirdness (Browning’s babyface certainly helps with the discomfort level).
Also, props for the nice use of the Futura font!
This is novelist-turned-director Leigh’s first feature film, and it will compete for the prestigious Palme d’Or at next month’s Cannes film festival. Other Australian films playing the fest include Iven Sen’s Toomelah (in the Un Certain Regard competition) and Justin Kurzel’s Snowtown (during the Critic’s Week, and in the running for the Camera d’Or for first time filmmakers).
Sleeping Beauty arrives in Australian cinemas June 23rd.
