Trailer Debut: Transformers – Dark of the Moon

The feature trailer for the third Transformers movie – the Pink Floydian-titled Dark of the Moon – has debuted online. It hints at an incisive commentary on geopolitics and the American government’s relationship with its citizens, as well as a haunting final sequence that evokes Michael Haneke‘s … just kidding! It’s robots punching each other!

You’ll hardly be surprised to discover the trailer for Michael Bay‘s latest is light on plot and heavy on KA-BOOM, but it does offer glimpses of new cast members Frances McDormand and John Turturro in action. Also, Megan Fox-replacement Rosie Huntington-Whiteley does some nice mouth-agape work opposite Shia LaBeouf.

Most fascinating however is the final shot, in which a skyscraper is cut in-half by the evil invading space-bots. Although monumental destruction is hardly a new feature for a Michael Bay film, this seems particularly reminiscent of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Can we expect Bay to make a sensitive allusion to the September 11 tragedy, or is it simply included because it looks cool?

Check out the trailer and decide for yourself! (You can watch it in HD over at Apple).

Transformers – Dark of the Moon arrives in Australian cinemas June 30, 2011.

Discuss: Could T3: DOTM be a fitting conclusion to the Transformers saga?

  1. T3 DOTM trailer is a screamer! Can’t wait to see it later this year, and hope that it concludes the Transformers saga on a high. The new girl Rosie H-T looks like a great choice to replace Megan Fox.

  2. This does look rather good. Bumblee save us!
