Trailer Debut: Another Earth

The mesmerising, haunting trailer for Brit Marling’s Sundance favourite Another Earth debuted online a couple weeks ago; apologies for being so late to the game! Allow us to add our voice to the online chorus of cheers by confirming that, yes, this is indeed a gorgeous looking teaser.

Another Earth, directed by Mike Cahill, stars Brit Marling as an aspiring astrophysicist who begins to question her place in the universe when a duplicate Earth is discovered in the cosmos. Marling also wrote the screenplay and produced the flick, which went on to pick up the Alfred P. Sloan prize at Sundance.

The trailer evokes both Tarkovsky’s Solaris, as well as Lars von Trier’s Melancholia (which, admittedly, we haven’t seen). Another Earth also features William Mapother, and has rocketed to the top of our Most Anticipated Films of 2011 list.

Check out the trailer and share your thoughts below!

Another Earth hits U.S. cinemas courtesy of Fox Searchlight July 22, 2011, with an Australian release to hopefully follow. Fox Searchlight also picked up another Sundance film written, produced and starring Marling recently, entitled Sound of My Voice, in which she stars as a cult leader who claims to be a time traveller from the year 2054. Needless to say, this Marling will be worth keeping an eye on.

  1. Looks really interesting. I’ll be checking that one out!

  2. As I watched the trailer for this film, I honestly have never been so moved by a mere film trailer, and the fact that they perfectly used Patrick Watson’s “To Build a Home” I was utterly amazed. This seems to promise one of the most beautiful and emotionally moving films in history – at least for me. 🙂
