First look at Cameron Crowe’s We Bought A Zoo

It’s been a long time between drinks for Cameron Crowe, whose last feature film was the ultra-Crowe-ian Elizabethtown, best known for containing some outrageously bad sequences (stand-up comedy at a wake?), hilariously twee quotes (“This loss will be met with a hurricane of love”) and a performance from Kirsten Dunst that would lead critic Nathan Rabin to coin the phrase “manic pixie dream girl“.

That being said, we’re intensely excited for his first film in six years: an adaptation of Benjamin Mee’s memoir We Bought A Zoo. Cameron Crowe took to Twitter to share the first images from the flick. Above, you’ll see (kinda) stars Matt Damon, Stephanie Szostak, Colin Ford and Maggie Elizabeth Jones as the Mee family. You can check out even more snaps from the set at his official Twitter account.

Damon stars as Benjamin Mee, who, recovering from the death of his wife, moves his family to England and purchases a dilapidated zoo.

The pic also stars Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick Fugit and Elle Fanning. It arrives in American cinemas December 23, 2011, with an Australian release to follow.

Discuss: Do you still hold out hope that Crowe can deliver a film as good as Almost Famous? Or are you an Elizabethtown apologist?
