So, this won’t quash suspicions that Catfish was a fake documentary. Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who helmed the spectacularly fascinating social networking exposé Catfish, have been recruited to direct Paranormal Activity 3.
Dread Central and Bloody Disgusting share the scoop, also claiming that original director Oren Peli will return as producer while Paranormal Activity 2 scripter Christopher P. Landon will pen the third instalment of the spooky low-budget saga.
As was previously reported, Paranormal Activity 3 will hit cinemas October 21, 2011, so Joost, Schulman, Peli and Langdon will need to get their skates on to meet the deadline.
Although I joked in the opening paragraph that Catfish was a fake-out, I actually believe that the events that take place in the film are for real. Regardless, Joost and Schulman showed off plenty of flair for creating tension in the documentary format, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do with the Paranormal Activity framework.
And at least they won’t be stolen away at the last minute to direct a Saw movie!
Interesting choice, but I think a good one. These two have shown they’re more than capable of using low-rent/found footage to create an interesting and at times suspenseful film. That said, I don’t have much interest in this franchise
