Trailer Debut (#2): The Green Lantern

A second feature trailer for The Green Lantern has arrived (in brightest day), combining elements from the first teaser, the extended Wonder-Con clip, and some brand new footage of a villainous, giant-headed Peter Sarsgaard.

Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, a fighter pilot who is recruited to be the first human Green Lantern by an alien race of space cops.

The Martin Campbell directed adaptation of the DC comic hero is easily the wild card of the 2011 blockbuster slate; superhero movies are no longer the guaranteed cash cow they used to be, and this one certainly departs from the “gritty realism” made popular by Christopher Nolan’s Batman flicks.

Warner Bros will no doubt be closely watching the success of Thor (which similarly features a fantastical superhero realm), and praying that audiences don’t confuse it with the Michel Gondry/Seth Rogen vehicle The Green Hornet.

Check out the latest trailer (and best so far) below.

The Green Lantern also stars Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi and features the voice of Geoffrey Rush. It arrives in Australian cinemas June 16, 2011.  August 4th, 2011, two months after its American bow. What’s with the delay?!

Discuss: Where does this rank on your “most anticipated” list?
