After weeks of casting news, Entertainment Weekly has released a first look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in the Gary Ross directed adaptation of the bestselling series The Hunger Games.
The release of this promotional photo shows spot-on casting for the much loved heroine, despite initial doubts by many of the novel’s fans. It’s more than a new brunette hairdo for Lawrence however; she also embodies a sense of innocence yet strong determination, all within a single photo. We can’t wait until we can see a clip of her in action.
In the exclusive interview with EW, Lawrence opened up about signing on for the role of a lifetime saying, “I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change, and I walked around an entire day thinking ‘It’s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven’t said yes yet, it’s not too late.’” But her love for the story ultimately won, with her admitting “If I had said no, I would regret it every day.”
The final two tributes have also been named on the film’s official Facebook page, with Alexander Ludwig (Race to Witch Mountain) landing the role of Cato and Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan) scoring Clove from District 2. Their district is known for its stone quarries but also for training peacekeepers and where weapons are manufactured. Children raised in District 2 have a warrior mindset and are some of the toughest competition in the Games.
With production now in full swing things are starting to get exciting, but we’re not done with casting news just yet: we’re still to hear who will play both President Snow and Katniss’ designer, Cinna.
Spot on. She has Katniss nailed.
