Schwarzenegger’s movie comeback on hold; Terminator sequels and Cry Macho in doubt

Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s movie comeback seemed unstoppable. Not only had he locked in his first project since leaving office as Governor of California – Cry Machothe rights to two more Terminator films with him in the lead were just purchased, at great expense, by billionairess and movie buff Megan Ellison.

The future of these projects are now in doubt. In a statement released from his office (and reported by MSNBC), it has been revealed that Schwarzenegger will temporarily withdraw from the business of moviemaking to focus on his personal matters. This includes a divorce from longtime wife Maria Shriver following the revelation that he had fathered a lovechild with his housekeeper fourteen years ago.

The statement concludes, ” We will resume discussions when Gov. Schwarzenegger decides.”

Interest in Schwarzenegger’s projects has been high these past few months, so it seems unlikely that they’ll simply disappear into the ether as he deals with his personal matters. The producers of Cry Macho have been waiting almost a decade for Arnie to leave office and star in their film.

However, public opinion has turned on the former Governor these past few weeks, and it is unknown what effect that will have on his pulling power as a movie star.

With a costly divorce on the horizon, Arnie will need some big blockbusters to ensure a decent source of income. More news as it develops.

Discuss: Disappointed that Terminator 5 and 6 may not happen after all, or have you cooled on the Arnie comeback following these controversies?
