Amy Adams joins new Paul Thomas Anderson flick

Amy Adams already has three Oscar nominations to her name, and we’d bet money that she’ll score her fourth in Paul Thomas Anderson‘s untitled new religious drama.

According to Deadline, Adams has signed on to star alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix in the Megan Ellison-funded feature (the rights for which were recently purchased by The Weinstein Company).

Adams will star as the wife of Hoffman’s cult-leader in the 1950s set film. Phoenix has been cast as his right-hand man.

The original script was reportedly a Scientology satire, but when investors were apprehensive about joining the controversial project, Anderson toned down the parallels between Hoffman’s character and L. Ron Hubbard.

Discuss: Do you think the Academy will ever give Adams an Oscar?

  1. I think she is fearless, and will win an Oscar, but not for this. She is a triple threat – acting, singing and dancing
