Sony Pictures will develop a spec script with the working title Sex Tape, in a seven figure deal, according to Deadline.
The screenplay, written by Kate Angelo, follows a married couple who decide to spice up their relationship and make a sex tape. When they wake the following morning and find the tape is missing they set out to discover who has taken it and how they can get it back.
With the recent box office success of The Hangover Part II, a comedy with this formula of raunchy mystery could be a winning combination, but at the heart of it this sounds like a very generic idea about two parents letting loose … anyone remember Date Night? Even with two comedic heavyweights, Steve Carell and Tina Fey, that film struggled to stay afloat.
The comedy will be fast tracked by Sony and will be produced by Escape Artists partners Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch.
