Aronofsky takes on Noah’s Ark

Director Darren Aronofsky moves from Black Swan to a menagerie as he shops around Noah, an original screenplay described as “an edgy re-telling of the Noah’s Ark story” by Deadline.

The screenplay is currently being rewritten by John Logan while Aronofsky seeks a reported $130 million to get it made. After the success of Black Swan, which won an Oscar and was nominated for four others, he’s in prime position to make demands, with New Regency apparently circling a co-financing role at the moment. It also doesn’t hurt that Black Swan pulled in $315 million worldwide off a $12 million budget.

The film is said to be a sweeping epic fantasy, and something quite different to the Noah’s Ark “comedic” reimagining Evan Almighty. Aronofsky hopes to make it his next major project after dropping out of the director’s chair for The Wolverine, and circling but not signing for another bible story, Exodus.

Discuss: Can Aronofsky pull off a film about Noah and his ark?
