Ben 10 heading for the big screen

Producer Joel Silver (Die Hard, The Matrix) is developing a big-budget live-action adaptation of the Cartoon Network show Ben 10.

According to Variety, the project will have nothing to do with other live-action incarnations of the program, and that the characters will be entirely recast.

Silver revealed that he had been introduced to the world of Ben 10 – about a young boy who can transform into a collection of different aliens – by his children.

The mega-producer also admitted that his last attempt to turn a cartoon into a blockbuster film franchise didn’t work out as he intended.

“I tried to do (something similar) with ‘Speed Racer’ and failed miserably … You always learn more from the ones that don’t work than the ones that do work.”

There is no release date set yet, but Silver assures Variety that this will be a tentpole release.

Discuss: Could Ben 10 become an epic series like the soon-to-be-concluded Harry Potter franchise?
