Our long, national nightmare is over. After Darren Aronofosky skipped out on directing The Wolverine, Fox and star Hugh Jackman have been on the lookout for a suitable replacement. According to Deadline, they have settled on Knight and Day helmer James Mangold.
Mangold is a serviceable director; he makes solid films (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma), but they’re hardly brimming with personality. We can only dream of the weird and wonderful concoction Aronofsky could have given us.
The Wolverine, written by Christopher McQuarrie, will begin production in Japan later this year.
Discuss: Is Mangold a good fit, or were you hoping for someone a bit left of centre to shake things up?
