It looks like ‘Jeff Buckley’ is the new ‘Snow White‘. Last week it was revealed that ‘Lonely Boy’ Penn Badgley had been cast as Buckley in an upcoming biopic (today confirmed by Deadline). However, he will not be the ONLY Buckley hitting cinemas in the coming year.
We incorrectly reported that Badgley had been cast in Jake Scott’s official, family-sanctioned Buckley biopic (based upon the David Browne book Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley).
Rather, he will play Jeff in the film Greetings from Tim Buckley, a film that will focus primarily on his estranged father and musician. A second film centered around Jeff is also planned.
Jeff only met his father once before the man died of a drug overdose in 1975, but his presence in the film will be significant.
According to Deadline:
“Greetings from Tim Buckley follows the true story of the days leading up to Jeff Buckley’s eminent 1991 performance at his father’s tribute concert in St. Ann’s Church. Through a romance with a young woman working at the concert, he comes to understand the father who abandoned him. Culminating in a cathartic performance of his father’s most famous songs, Jeff’s debut stuns the audience and launches his career as one of the greatest young musicians of his time.”
Greetings from Tim Buckley begins shooting in New York in August.
Discuss: So, the question becomes, who will play Bizarro Buckley in Jake Scott’s film?
